Optical Drives

An optical drive is any drive that can read CDs and/or DVDs. While these are not so common nowadays since every bit of data can be digital, and downloaded from the internet, the optical drive has fallen out of favor from the days of old (90’s – 2000’s). With that said, there will be options available that would be supported. Optical Drives will be either external (USB-C), or internal (SATA) using a 5.25″ bay on a desktop PC. No matter the choice, all optical drives will be Blu-Ray writers. These optical drives will support CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray Discs. They will also be able to write to all of these medias including using re-writable discs. While Blu-Ray is a minimal increase of price, they are so much better to even when compared to a DVD drive. While they will not replace the SDXC card that is standard, they can do a lot in the way of backing up one’s home library, or for archival purposes.
