Readers

eBook readers are as the name implies – a reader. With that in mind, the reader’s minimum specs will be designed for someone holding the reader a little less than arm’s reach, and enjoy the typed content within the book they are reading. With that said, the reader will require the following specs:

  • 1Ghz dual core CPU, 1GB of memory
  • 8GB of OS storage, and micro-SDXC card slot
  • 7″ 300dpi backlit eInk display

A 1Ghz CPU will process the files quickly, and efficiently. Since the reader is likely to read one book at a time, and maybe play .mp3 files as well, 1GB of memory should be more than enough which will increase longevity. The 8GB of storage is for the OS, and not the books. For the owner to install ebooks on the device, they must have a micro-SDXC card. In addition to books, this will also be where the .mp3 files will be loaded on as well. The smallest card I seen is 32GB which will be more than enough to hold thousands of books, and still have a lot of room for .mp3 files.

A 7″ backlit display should be sufficient for the owner to read his books. Since the device is eInk, it will last a week or more on a single charge. At 300dpi, the reader should not see any pixels which will give it a near physical book experience.
